6-hour session
The More Functional Closet
Going from another organizer's system that didn't work for her to showing the space off to her husband.
A system that finally matched her life
This client hired multiple organizers for her and her husband's his and her closets, while they were working on hers, I was working on her husbands. After they finished, she brought me in to asses and redo what wasn't working in hers. Intimates were in this closet in cloth bins, and her workout leggings and t-shirts she wore every day were buried in the bottom drawers of her closet.
The approach
I started by looking at the two areas that weren't working, this closet, and her drawers. After asking about what she was frequently wearing the most, and what items she only wore occasionally I prioritized what should be in the most accessible places. Once I had a good idea of the volume in each category I came up with a plan for what was going in the drawers, what was going in this closet, and how to maximize the space. I measured the space and suggested the following products: a couple options for drawer space at the bottom of the closet, clear dividers to separate items in the closet, and mesh bags for swim suits to be used in the drawers to keep swim separates together, and organize them in a fun way. The client picked an option for drawer space, ordered the other items and we scheduled a time for me to come back to complete this project. When I returned, I pulled every item out and started re-sorting items into categories: intimates, socks, t-shirts, leggings, tennis skirts, shorts, swimsuits, sweaters, and scarfs. I used the cloth bins she had to organize socks and intimates in her drawers. The skiing socks she rarely used went in the bottom, intimates, and the every day socks went near the top. In the closet I sorted by category with the least used items going at the top where it was harder to reach. The goal was to make it easier for her to maintain, find what she needs, and keep her closet looking good for years to come.
The result
By the end of the 6-hour session the closet and drawers had a system that worked. She even pulled her husband in to show off the space, proud that it finally felt functional. The system was simple enough that maintaining it wouldn't require a professional, she could keep it organized herself.
"It finally feels like it works. I had no idea what to do with this closet."

The closet before. I might have pulled some clothes out before this picture, but I couldn't wait to get started.

The swimsuit organization hack she was in love with.
